The eve of Oak Apple Day fell on Whit Sunday (Pentecost) this year, so our service celebrated both the Holy Spirit at work in our community as well as our Oak Apple tradition. The chairs had been jet-washed, the sun was shining, the wine was cooling in the fridge, Sophie’s keyboard successfully plugged in, and all was well with the world - thanks to the efforts of those from the Oak Apple Committee and their helpers who had erected the marquee, sourced the wine and nibbles and volunteered to take on the readings. We were reminded of how “two are better than one” in so many of life’s challenges; that we are to “serve one another with whatever gift each of [us] has received”; and of just how many unsung heroes there are in Wishford! And it was wonderful to welcome a number of non-Wishfordians to our our gathering of 36. The retiring collection was for CRESS (Christian Relief and Education in Southern Sudan) and we were pleased to donate a total of £116.90 to that worthy and sadly very much needed cause. Thank you to all who made the evening possible. Yvonne Allen
